The making of Samosas..

Image
Did you guys know, September 5th is World Samosa Day? We all know that 5th September is celebrated as Teacher's day in our India. I still remember that was one day we 12th standards got to be a teacher for a day and take a class for atleast one period!! And, we gave Roses to our favourite Teacher/s! I had given a Rose to my Maths teacher... She was the most humblest yet brilliant being I have ever known (a rarity among Maths teachers I believe! 😉). Teacher's day is celebrated on September 5th to honor our first Vice President (1952–1962), Dr Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan who later on became the second President of India (1962-1967). He was also a great scholar, philosopher, Bharat Ratna awardee and born on September 5th in 1888! Teacher's day marks the birthday of our President, Dr Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan. But how did we start celebrating Teacher's Day? It seems that when Dr Radhakrishan took the office of the second President of India in 1962, his students approached h...

Light & Shadows

Image
"Shadow is a colour as light is, but less brilliant; light and shadow are only the relation of two tones."                   – Paul Cezanne Where there is light, there's always shadow, multi tones. Without them any picture would seen life less. It's the shades and reflections that give form to any object and breath to a picture... Creates an illusion of three dimension. Theoretically, a shadow is light blocked by an object. The object can block all or part of the light and based on the closeness to the light source the shadows change size. Shadows can be formed by one light source or more light sources. The Sun, lamps, flashlights, and fires are all sources of light. Not to complicate and as a beginner, I am concentrating on single light source.  The Will Kemp Art School 's A Beginners Guide to Light & Shadow   gives a good idea on the theory of shadows.  Almost all objects in the nature can be reduced to b...

An evening... a lesson learnt!

Today afternoon amma walks into my room and sees me getting ready for some painting. Hadn't yet finalized what I was going to make! Picking up my older works she says, "Paint something from imagination!" And here it is... Something I vaguely remembered seeing in TV somewhere. Tried some shadowing effect. Here I am assuming that light source is from right hence the shadows are falling to the left and more towards the corner.. Though now that I actually think about it, I think it should have been more to the back... 🙄 For the shadow I have used dark grey from my 24 shades camel cake set.  That gives rise to an important question: Is Grey the correct colour for shadows? What are shadows? [5] drawpaintsculpt website (https://www.drawpaintsculpt.com/the-colour-of-shadows/) s ays, "It is a common misconception that a shadow is the absence of light. If there were no light in the shadow, you would not be able to see anything at all, whereas you almost always can...

Online is such wide and huge world in itself... The World Wide Web! During my childhood I had to turn the whole library upside down for even a single topic! But now, everything is just one click away. Technology!  Social networking has totally revolutionised the lives of many. From entertainment to education, everything one can find.  During my college days, I remember there was Orkut .  Used to be glued to that... The scrapbook... Hmm.. those were some days... Had so much time in my hands! Then, it disappeared... 'On June 30, 2014, Google announced that Orkut would be shutting down completely on September 30, 2014.' And then, it was an era of Facebook ... Add your friends... Chat with them... Share your pictures... Posts ... Pages... Opinions are shared... I think it's evolving still!  Pictures used to be in our albums first. Then when digital camera, smartphones came, it used to be in our memory cards... Gallery... We would share in Facebook...
